Marmalead is an SEO tool that provides a performance score for Etsy businesses, keyword suggestions, trend analysis, competition analysis, sales tracking, and a listing optimization tool.

erank
Great value, loads of useful Etsy SEO related data and Google Analytics integration, eRank is our tool of choice.
eRank vs. Marmalead Overview
eRank: eRank is a comprehensive Etsy SEO (Search Engine Optimization) tool designed to help sellers analyze and improve their product listings. It provides various features such as keyword research, competitor analysis, and listing optimization recommendations.
With eRank, sellers can track their shop’s performance, identify top-performing products, and discover opportunities to improve visibility and sales.
Marmalead: Marmalead is considered the original Etsy SEO tool, that is specifically built for Etsy sellers. It offers a range of features to help sellers optimize their listings and gain a competitive advantage.
Marmalead provides comprehensive keyword research, trend analysis, competitor insights, and other valuable metrics.
eRank & Marmalead Users
I spend a lot of time in Etsy-related groups including a number of private groups related to Etsy courses.
I’ve found that Marmalead users tend to be long-term Etsy sellers who sell handmade items.
Younger Etsy sellers and those involved in Print on Demand tend to use eRank as their research tool of choice.
Whilst that’s a bit of a generalisation it does seem to hold true.
Comparison of Key Features
eRank and Marmalead offer similar key functions that help sellers looking to improve the visibility of their Etsy listings in Etsy Search and get a better understanding of Etsy SEO.
The key features of both are:
- Keyword Search – providing search volume, competition & engagement stats
- Listing Grades – a grading based on Etsy SEO best practices
- Keyword Comparison – comparing different terms side by side
- Track Keywords – to see changes over time
- Trending – See which terms are trending over time.
- Create Keyword Lists – for future use
Keyword Search
A key feature of both is the keyword research tools.
I entered the same term in both tools. Here are the stats:
Marmalead stats show expected searches for the next 30 days, Vs eRank which gives you an average from the last 12 months.
I’d prefer it if the tool wasn’t guessing what search volume is going to be and instead just gave me the historical facts.
Having sold a product relating to the keyword example used, I can tell you that the search trend data shown by eRank is far more accurate from what I have seen.
Marmalead Storm
Marmalead also offers their Storm feature that provides a list of keywords based on your initial search, and then improves the list of terms based on what you reject or keep from the list.
Its a nice feature to help you find new keyword ideas, but its nothing special.
eRank Bulk Keyword Tool
Whilst Marmalead may have Storm, eRank has a bulk keyword tool that allows you to enter a list of 20 terms and compare the data for them.
This works really well if you have a seed list of ideas and want to compare them all in one hit.
My Listings (Marmalead) Vs Listing Audit (eRank)
eRank and Marmalead both offer functionality that grades your Etsy listing based on Etsy best practice. Both tools are adamant that one should only use the gradings as a guide and not to spend agest trying to get all your items as an A+.
The aim of the functionality is to help you optimize your listings.
I took one of my listings and undertook a comparison of eRank vs Marmalead to see how they ranked the listing and what information they gave me to improve it.
Both tools graded the item as a B (shocking right? how dare they 😀 )
eRank provides the following information:
- Superstar Keyword – enter your main keyword that you are targeting and eRank uses it to provide more tips on how to optimize the listing.
- Listing Grade
- Tips – how you can improve the listing
- Listing Statistics – Stats about how old it is, the views, the number of favorites (which was accurate) etc
- Title
- Tags – the stats for all the tags used in Etsy listing.
- Attributes
- Category
- Description
- Images
- Processing Time
- Sales History
- Previews – of what the item would look like in Google.
- Hashtag Generator – produces hashtags to be used if you are sharing the product on social media. I found this really helpful.
Marmalead provides the following:
- Grade
- SEO Factors – Tags, long tail focus keywords, focus keyword engagement and long tail tags
- Sales Factors – Provides information relating to your description e.g. Number of photos, Words, Sentences, Readability & sentiment
- Title Readability – information about readability, sentiment, length, the full title, mobile title
- Focus Keywords – The stats for what Marmalead deems the focus keywords (which are words that appear in both title and tags)
- Non-Focus Keywords – Stats for these too
- Tags – the stats for the tags.
eRank provides more useful data out of the two. Marmalead displays its data cleanly but I feel more guidance could be given to help improve the listing.
eRank Only Functionality
Whilst Marmalead does offer key functionality that a seasoned Etsy seller may need, there are many more features offered by eRank that Marmalead does not offer. This includes:
Regional Data – The ability to filter search data for a specific region – ideal if you are a non-US seller
POD Data – Trending Print on demand related data
Track Your Competition – track the sales of other Etsy shops
Analyze your competition – See which items have been added recently and analyze all the tags that they use.
Most Sales – View which Etsy stores are making the most sales and filter by region & category.
Rank Checker – See where your items rank with personalization and ads removed.
There are other data sets that eRank makes available to sellers looking to understand their shops performance, but I think you get the point. eRank provides far more data than Marmalead.
eRank vs. Marmalead Pricing
eRank and Marmalead are two similar tools but they take a very different approach to pricing.
eRank Pricing
eRank offers
- A free plan that isn’t time bound and offers reduced functionality
- eRank Basic Plan for $5.99 a month
- eRank Pro Plan for $9.99 a month
- eRank Expert Plan for $29.99 a month
For most people, the Pro plan will offer more than enough of each function (searches, lookups, tracking etc) and it includes unlimited traffic stats using the Google Analytics integration so you can see what people are actually finding you for.
Marmalead Pricing
Marmalead offers a 14-day free trial and $19.99 per month paid plan.
There are no tiered plans. The only plan costs $19.99 per month or the equivalent of ~$16 per month if paid annually
Pricing Comparison
eRank Wins: eRanks Pro plan is half the price of Marmalead and offers more functionality.
What eRank Does Better Than Marmalead
eRank provides more data and allows for filtering on that data by location which is massive if you aren’t selling to the US market.
eRank understand that other data sources (Google analytics) and other ecommerce sites (Amazon) are important to Etsy sellers and so, make this data available to users.
What Marmalead Does Better Than eRank
Whilst Marmalead doesn’t provide as much data as eRank, the data it does provide is clear and well-presented.
They keep it simple and that simplicity means it is easy to see what matters.
eRank & Marmalead Alternatives
Whilst I dont feel there are exact competitors out there like eRank and like marmalead, there are other Etsy tools that help improve listings in your Etsy shop.
Here are some alternatives to consider:
My Thoughts: eRank vs. Marmalead
Marmalead is the original Etsy SEO tool and it has some die-hard fans who wouldn’t use anything else. It offers data in a clean concise manner but doesn’t provide as much data or functions as erank does.
eRank offers far more Etsy-related data (as well as data for other platforms) and allows you to filter data based on location (a big plus if you arent a US-based seller). eRanks premium plans are also significantly cheaper than Marmalead too.
The only downside with eRank? Some think it gives far too much data.
I dont, I would choose eRank over Marmalead every day of the week as my keyword tool for my Etsy store.
I’ve been using erank since July 2020 and have used it to find many a great keyword and new niches to sell in.
