I was pretty blown away the first time I used this service as the outcome was great and drove engagement on my listing and I believe increased sales.

Video Cropping Tool

One of the free tools placeit provides is a video cropping tool that allows you to upload a video, select a size and let the tool work its magic to resize it. The tool crops the video to the desired site. Perfect for social media as different platforms have different video size requirements.

Video to Gif converter

Another free tool that Placeit offers it its video to gif converter which pretty much does what it says on the tin helping those that want to share video in gif format on social media or their own eCommerce sites.

Image Cropper

Not quite as exciting as the two tools above, but useful nonetheless, is the free image cropping tool. If you dont have access to design software then this can come in handy when you’re wanting to reduce the size of an image you have.

Ease of Use and Interface

I predominantly use Placeit for the mockups and find creating mockups easy. Applying the design and color matching the mockup with the manufacturer’s imagery is straightforward to do.

My main issue with Placeit is the poor search and filtering of mockups. With over 14,000 mockups available finding one that suits your brand or niche can mean going through endless pages of mockups until you land on the one you want.

The ability to favorite mockups and have a favorite list to go back to is helpful but that doesnt help see the latest mockups that placeit adds regularly.

The design tools are a little bit cumbersome compared to Canva and similar design tools, but once you get the hang of them you can create great designs quickly. The functionality is limited but it doesn’t stop you from getting designs done.

Placeit Pricing

Placeit offers a variety of pricing options to fit the needs of different users. There is a free option for those who want to test out the features before purchasing, and there are also various subscription plans available.

Free Account and Templates

Placeit offers a free version of an ever-changing set of free digital assets for registered users to try free. This is great if you want to try out the service and if you just want the odd mockup, but if you have a POD store you will need more than this.

Purchase Individual items

If you do just want the odd mock up then you can purchase an individual mockup for $7.99.

Subscription

Historically the monthly charge for an unlimited access subscription to Placeit was $14.99. At the time of writing, if you are prepared to pay annually you can get all this for the equivalent of a little over $7 per month.

Their annual plan has always been cheaper than paying monthly, and the current offer is hard to beat. However, it’s worth keeping an eye out for Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals as they have had great offers in previous years.

Customer Support

I’ve had no reason to contact customer support. Why would I? There is very little that can go wrong.

They can be contacted via online chat which means you will get a quick response if you contact them during office hours.

PlaceIt Alternatives

There arent many tools out there that offer the same features and functionality as PlaceIt.

Whilst Canva offers better design features and you can buy mockups on Creative Fabrica and Creative Market none of these tools come close to PlaceIt for mockups.

My Experience With PlaceIt

I run numerous print on demand stores and in order to stand out I had to have quality mockups.

I was bored of the generic print on demand suppliers’ product images as they are bland and boring and are really only used by beginners and lazy store owners.

After trying Placeit for a month or two I signed up for the annual plan and have had it for years. Its that good.

I don’t use all the features like the design capabilities and I still think the service is great value due to the thousands of templates and mockups.

My only gripes with Placeit:

• Finding the mockup you want can be hard & time-consuming
• They have only recently added mockups of specific brand shirts i.e. the B&C3001
• The site can feel a little slow if you’re creating and downloading lots of mockups.

Neither of the above are material issues.

The Verdict
